Will.I.Am Says: “Learn To Respect Others”

June 25th, 2009 by Jayvee

Everyone and their mother (including us) has weighed in on the Perez altercation that went down on Sunday after the Much Music Awards, except Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.

Well, Will has finally released a statement — rather than addressing specifics of that night, he took the higher road and urges respect for others. Clearly, a concept Perez has never grasped. Read Will’s full statement after the cut.

I will not continue to comment specifically on the incident that happened in Toronto last weekend… But I would hate for my silence to be misconstrued… I do not condone harassment or violence of any kind…

No one deserves physical abuse…
And no one deserves verbal abuse…

No one deserves that…

Everyone needs to be respected…
And no ones name should be slandered in the name of hate and disrespect…
And fyi…”not every black man is a thug”…

As far as character allegations made against myself,
The members of the Black Eyed Peas,
And members of our management…
I believe that the truth will speak for itself once the details of the events are fully presented.

Hateful slurs…
Racial or gay should not be used as verbal weapons to provoke violence…

Let us all learn from the events that happened in Toronto…
That situation has already taken valuable time, energy,
And attention away from more important,
And in some cases, devastating issues happening in our world.

Thank you…
will.i.am

Well stated Mr. Am! Especially “every black man is not a thug”. I hate that it had to come to that, but when I read previously that Perez Hilton shouted that prior to calling him a “faggot” I immediately thought, “wow, black guy = thug”. People like him need more progressive ways of thinking, we’re in a new era. If Will.I.Am had called Perez the faggot, there would be gay rights marches in the street, breaking and burning of BEP CD’s, etc. Double standards anyone??

Shameless plug: If you’d like opinions on music without all the disrespect, DITCH PEREZHILTON and come on over to Sound-Savvy!!

Mack, seriously. Definitely a double standard – hoping Perez backlash continues. He is (always has been) a disgusting human being. Why do we allow people like him to profit by disrespecting others and dragging down the overall quality of life? I’m no angel, I’ve read Perez’s blog in the past so therefore, I’ve enabled him as well. However, moving forward, he will not benefit from my clicks – notice how we didn’t even link to his site? Why give him additional traffic.

Love the shameless plug — do check out my buddy Mack’s site – well worth the read!

First, Jayvee, we know you’re no angel!

Second, did you read last week’s article about Perez going friendlier and toning it down come August – part of a whole new direction for his site in order to please advertisers. You’ll find it under a google news search. He also has six-figure deals in place to promote three products over the summer…This guy is making a lot of money.
