The Round Table

There were some rumblings that M.I.A. would make a guest appearance on Diplo and Switch’s Major Lazer project, but after the official tracklist leaked, Ms. Maya was…well, m.i.a..

Don’t fret kids. According to Pitchfork, the rapper-singer has now shown up on a new Major Lazer mix, created for Mishka’s Keep Watch series. (via Gorilla vs. Bear)

The mix features Bjork, Ace of Base (wha?), Rye Rye and more with that psychedelic electronica flair that only Diplo can give it. While King Jammys “Judgment Day,” is a standout track for me,  it’s M.I.A. that steals the show. Check her verse out at the 11 minute mark.

“I say where’s the daddy?” she repeats over the autotuned “Baby” riddim from the Major Lazer album before annihilating paternal negligence like only she can. “Look at all the babies growin’ up in the muck/ Lookin’ up at the fucked up men like, ‘Yuck’.” Gotta give the chick credit. Thought she jumped the shark a bit with her “performance” at the Grammys (9months pregnant mind you). Guess you can say she’s now speaking as a mother  on a mission, she continues “I ain’t gonna raise my son like that, ’cause this is a woman’s world and he knows that.” Preach on, sister!
