Well, Nelly Furtado has finally stopped teasing us and released the video for “Manos al Aire,” the lead single off her full length Spanish album debut Mi Plan, to be released on September 26th.

So, for those of you who don’t understand Spanish, what’s this song all about? According to Nelly , it’s about “surrendering to love.” The story “revolves around a woman who is always going on her own ego and telling her love interest what to do. But at the end, the woman has her hands in the air and says to her lover, ‘I just want peace and I surrender to this love and I only care about loving you. I wanna love you, we love each other like we used to.’”

As with most of her songs (minus “Promiscuous“), Nelly takes an honest look at love and relationships. However, what’s always been a sore point for the singer is her video concepts or lack thereof, with the exception of “Try.” We were hoping Nelly finally would step up her video game with this new release, but sadly, she didn’t.

“Manos al Aire” starts with Nelly and her lover fighting in a therapy session, while shots of Nelly dressed in army fatigues driving a jeep down a suburban street throwing away personal effects are spliced in. As Nelly nears the end of the street, she exits the jeep and starts removing her army gear. Um what? Well, it could be a literal interpretation of the chorus “I have no weapons/I surrender/I put my hands up in the air/I only want to love you/With all that I have/Like yesterday.” Or as Nelly describes it as “the visual symbolization of when a person strips away their ego layers.” Again, um… what?

We won’t tell you how it ends, but if you’re a Nelly Furtado fan, you’ll want to check it out. While the concept may be lacking, baby girl is looking good — back to Whoa Nelly days hot.
