Video: Michelle Branch “Sooner or Later”
October 26th, 2009 by JayveeDid you know Michelle Branch is now a “country” solo artist? You may recall Michelle dabbled in the country genre when she teamed up with Jessica Harp to form The Wreckers, but now it seems she’s ready to return to her solo star status. While Michelle may be in heavy rotation at CMT and her new single, “Sooner or Later,” is listed under “country” in iTunes, I’m struggling to figure out what is so “country” about it?
Aside from some steel guitar love in the song and the video being shot on a perceived country road in an old-school VW, the sound is pretty much on par with what Michelle has done as a mainstream singer-songwriter. I’m not knocking it, in fact, I dig it, but I guess we’ll have to see what the entire album sounds like before we pass judgment on Michelle’s genre crossover. Check out the video below — Michelle’s rockin’ quite a bit of ink too.

Did you not hear the banjo in there, too?? This song is totally country! Hahah
Also, I do think she’s changed her delivery just enough (no more growl at the end of her words: you’re everywhere-uh to meee-uh), not to mention this is what passes for country music these days. It’s pop-country, but country nonetheless.
