In case the official announcement nearly three weeks ago passed you by, consider this a late warning to mark your calendars and clear your schedules.

Fresh off a tour promoting its most recent release, Mama, I’m Swollen, Cursive is ready to hit the road again. This time the Omaha-based band will complete the I-80 connection, sharing the road with Chicago’s Alkaline Trio.

The 34-city, 36-show tour set to begin on Feb. 16 at Glass House in Pomona, Ca. is truly a coast-to-coast production, making its way across the country for two shows in Chicago (both at the Metro on Feb. 27 and 28), and stopping in New York (March 12 at Nokia Theatre) before winding around through the southern states with its finale in West Hollywood, Ca.

Much of the same is expected from Cursive, though Tim Kasher and crew have always been known to spring a few surprises on their fans. And though Alkaline Trio will be promoting its yet-to-be released (Feb. 23) This Addiction, fans who have seen or heard much at all from the trio in the last year won’t likely hear anything new, either.

As early as last summer, Alkaline Trio has been playing songs from the upcoming release, most notably the title track.

Perhaps playing so many of the album’s songs in advance was a way of teasing its fans into begging for the actual release, or maybe it’s just the nature of the band to take its time in the studio to give its faithful a carefully crafted album worthy of multiple listens until the next album is conceived.

Either way, the combination of Alkaline Trio and Cursive is, in many ways, a dominant duo worthy of selling out shows across the nation and casting a dark shadow (in a good way) over each stage they grace.

If each draws half the energy the respective fan bases will likely pump into the 34 venues, maybe the promoters will be inclined to push for encore dates.
