Live Footage: Kelly Clarkson Covers Keith Urban’s “Tonight I Wanna Cry”

Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson kicked off the final leg of her All I Ever Wanted tour in Auckland, New Zealand last night by paying homage to hometown boy Keith Urban, one of NZ’s biggest selling recording artists by covering his hit “Tonight I Wanna Cry.” Ms. Clarkson has been known to bust out pretty fantastic cover songs throughout her tours, but there’s something so beautifully haunting about this cover in particular especially as she delivers the lines “I’m just drunk enough to let go of my pain/To hell with my pride, let it fall like rain/From my eyes/Tonight I wanna cry.”

Backed by only a piano and her acoustic guitarists, Ms. Clarkson absolutely stuns the crowd with her vocals. Minus the one random “woo-er” the audience sits in complete silence for just over 3 minutes. Pretty impressive stuff. Check out the video below – as well as the original by Mr. Urban.

    This is such a beautiful song and Keith sings it in his concerts with so much passion and on piano as well! I love it! Kelly does a great job, but it can’t beat Keith’s version..IMO!

    It’s cool Kelly introduces her audience to new music, they might not have heard some of her covers before she sang them. She does a good job with all her covers and this was no exception. She did Keith justice! Lovely :)

    i love the passion in her voice. she truly can make a song come to life. i cannot stop listening to this. kelly has done some incredible covers in the past but i have to say this is my current favorite. she loves music so much. it really comes through in her performance.

    Kelly has a fantastic voice and came across with passion and heart. Listening to Keith again …. I agree with another post …. no one does it better. But she made an excellent try. If you have not seen Keith in concert … make it a priority! I promise you will NOT be disappointed.

    I love Keith Urban but no one interprets a song like Kelly. I was honored to see Kelly and Keith in concert last year. Two amazing singers.

    Keith is Australian for god’s sake! he was born in New Zealand. Pointless that Kiwis try and claim him as their own! When was the last time he went over the Tasman?? when he was 2 years old maybe??
