Every band’s got a “thing” – Spoon has attitude, Grizzly Bear is pretty, Death Cab likes metaphors, but Beat Radio is just awesome. With every new song Brian Sendrowitz puts out, I am both amazed and ecstatic that someone is still releasing indie rock this catchy.
This isn’t new. We’ve expressed our love for Beat Radio before and, if you thought we were going to get all M. Night Shyamalan up in this B, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. If, however, you were hoping for new Beat Radio songs, then you are in luck, my friend!
While the two new tracks fit with what we’ve been hearing lately, they’re definitely unique in their own right.
“Golden Age” pairs a warped guitar and live drums against an ominous wall of sound, managing to sound both hopeful and slightly stormy. The second track, a cover of The Diggs “… and the end shoot back” continues with the dense and dark waves of sound, but mashes them with a beat loop straight out of Afrika Bambaataa’s “Looking for the Perfect Beat.”
Perfection, indeed.
Have a listen, and download, “Golden Age” and “… and in the end shoot back” after the jump.
So this mix is a little different than earlier ones… For starters, it has a theme –cover songs!– and subsequently a title that’s slightly more descriptive. That being said, I’m still sticking with the whole whatever-excellent-new-music-I’ve-acquired-or-gotten-into-of-late, only this time they’re all covers. Which is basically just me saying this is by no means my definitive cover songs mix –that would, most likely, include The Braids‘ version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Sheryl Crow’s take on “D’Yer Mak’er” and a slew of other randoms…
But I digress. I present to you: Cover Me!, the Ghostface Millah Mix, Volume 3. There’s some really well-knowns on here, referring to both songs and artists, but the overall intention is to make it a cohesive album with the traditional SIDE A / SIDE B kinda feeling. Basically, SIDE A is fun/upbeat and SIDE B is more down tempo…
After the jump, download, listen and let me know what you think.
Earlier this week we brought you an exclusive interview with John Speyer, The Postellesbassist, and now we bestow upon you free music from the band. Today, The Postelles released their new EP, White Night (go get it!!) and to celebrate, you can download lead single “White Night” for free. It’s a must have for any party mix being made — Forest, that means download it now!!
And yes, for the record (again), I fully support the indie-rock movement to revive 50’s/60’s sound. Bring it on boys!!
It’s been almost 5 months since we first reported rumors of Robbie Williams reuniting with his ex-bandmates, Take That. Now, it’s being said that Robbie has recorded five songs with the boys who have their sight set on releasing a new album by end of year.
There are no plans to tour in support of the new album yet, but it’s pretty safe to say that the boys will look to capitalize on this reunion to the utmost extent. You can bet TRT’s very own Robbie Williams super-fan, Forest, will be first in line for tickets when the tour’s announced. Stay tuned for more details.
Who wants more Swedish pop? You know you do… Check out Miike Snow’s latest song “Silva,” remixed by Australian DJs Hook N Sling & Goodwill. This song is just what you need to dance your way into Tuesday. Glow sticks not included.
It’s a lazy Sunday for me here at The Round Table – so figured I’d share a free song I just downloaded myself. Thanks to the folks at Rock Ridge Music, download a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Case of You” performed by Tony Lucca and Keaton Simons. The pair are currently on tour together and decided to lay down this track just for the fans. All you have to do is click the link below and surrender your email address to Tony. Well worth it — I’d say. Enjoy.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a sucker for a supergroup –especially when said supergroup’s respective main projects appeared to the public as side projects after the supergroup hit big (see: The New Pornographers)– so you can imagine how excited I was to learn that Broken Social Scene had reformed and were working on new stuff. After all, their sophomore album You Forgot It In People practically defined my early 2000’s and subsequent taste in music after experiencing it. And today must be my lucky day, cos they’re already sharing the fruits of their labor from their recently announced new album, Forgiveness Rock Record, slated to drop on May 4th.
All in all, the song is decent (if a little expected) fare from the Broken Social Scenesters, or even BSS member Andrew Whiteman’s side project Apostle of Hustle; it displays their knack for giving equal time to the chill meanders and “the payout”, which in this case is the semi-racuous chorus. But a la Reading Rainbow, don’t take my word for it. Hear it for yourself! Give ‘em yr email and get the song.
By “popular” “demand” I’m continuing what I started with last month’s Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 1 by giving you, dear readers, whatever excellent new music I’ve acquired or gotten-into of late. I present to you the Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 2.
If I do say so myself, it’s better than the first. For starters, it’s longer which means more goodness for you, and, just like last time, it’s a decent combo of blogosphere well-knowns and some deeper cuts from recently released albums to which I just can’t stop listening.

What’s a better way to start your Valentine’s Day Sunday than with free music? There is none, well, except unless V-Day didn’t exist. Clearly I’m bitter. Enjoy this rocked out remix of “Wish You Would” from Ludacris featuring T.I. thanks to our friends at Incorporated Elements.
Joe Firstman will perform at The Living Room in New York City this Saturday, February 13th, in support of his recently released full-length album El Porto. If you’re a fan of good old americana rock, this album should be part of your music collection. El Porto is heartfelt with immensely personal lyrics penned by Firstman, who has the innate ability to transport you to another time with his intricate delivery.
For those familiar with Firstman’s debut album The War of the Women, which I happen to LOVE, El Porto is a natural evolution. The songs that comprise the new album are simple, yet demonstrate a certain confidence of a singer-songwriter coming into his own. And, I’m not certain, but believe that “Today,” which is featured on El Porto could easily be a continuation of “Can’t Stop Loving You” from The War of Women. (Joe, if you’re reading this — give me a shout, dying to know).
We started as a three friends having conversations about music during lunches together at the office. Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
