Branded “the Screamo” band back in 2002-2003, The Used quickly gained noteriety thanks to “Buried Myself Alive” and “Blue and Yellow,” but in their hearts, the branding never truly fit. After all, they’re just a band of guys who like to rock and that’s what they’re out to prove with new single “I Come Alive” from forthcoming album Vulnerable (March 27).
Clever instrumentation including a xylophone part that delicately dances over the driving guitar lick is masterful. One of the strengths of The Used has always been in lead-singer Bert McCracken’s vocal prowess. This go around his vocals are clearly put through an assortment of filters to play with effects, which add to the song’s whimsical, yet borderline creepy sound. And while McCracken does restrain the majority of his screaming on “I Come Alive” he can’t help but open the throttle as the song hits its climax.
You can get your first listen of “I Come Alive” exclusively at KROQ now. The single will be available for purchase January 17th via iTunes.
