Hear Brand New The Shins Song “Simple Song”

So what if many of the original members have left. So what if it’s been five years since their last LP. So what if a lot of people thought that last LP was disappointing. James Mercer is keeping The Shins alive. And for that, I thank him.

(Full disclosure: I still listen to Oh, Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow (okay, and occasionally Wincing The Night Away) on, like, a weekly basis. I still remember fondly that glorious band shirt I lost in some random European country. I still lament the day that Zach Braff “legitimized” The Shins by relying so heavily on “New Slang” in Garden State.)

Despite its title, and with what seems like they’re returning to their Wall of Sound-ish beginnings that I first fell in love with, the song is not exactly simple. Sure, it’s a pop song overall, but there’s more to it than that.

Take a listen to the brand new “Simple Song”:

Pre-order The Shins’ new album Port of Morrow and get “Simple Song” tomorrow, Jan 10, 2012.
