VH1 has announced that Missy Elliott will join Queen Latifah as the second confirmed honoree at this year’s “Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens” event, which is slated to air live from New York on July 11 at 9 p.m. ET.
Hip Hop Honors returns after a six-year hiatus and will pay homage to the female pioneers, trailblazers and trend-setters who led a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today. VH1 states that “hugely influential female artists being honored will be announced later this week” in addition to Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah.
Missy Elliott has achieved and maintained success over three decades. The critically acclaimed, five time Grammy Award-winning producer/songwriter/singer/rapper has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. In addition to releasing innovative and acclaimed music, Missy Elliott has become synonymous with groundbreaking music videos with the video for her most recent single, “WTF (Where They From),” racking up over 40 million views on YouTube. All six of Missy Elliott’s studio albums have been RIAA platinum certified or better, making her the only female rapper to have achieved this.
With Missy and Queen Latifah on board, this show is sure to be memorable. Be sure to stay tuned for more artist announcements in the coming weeks.
