Flashback Friday: House of Pain’s ‘Jump Around’

Friday, May 28th, 2010

As soon as the Chicago Blackhawks clinched their first division title in 18 years earlier this week, flashbacks of everything 1992 began to surface.

First it was the unfortunate idea that Billy Ray Cyrus’ Achy Breaky Heart reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 40 Country Music Charts. (Shhh! Don’t tell Billy, but his daughter is a bigger icon).

Thankfully, House of Pain helped erase those memories with this instant classic that has been played everywhere from hockey games to movies (remember Robin Williams jamming to it in Mrs. Doubtfire?). That’s enough to tell us it is clearly better than the Achy Breaky Mistakey.

Pack it up, pack it in, let us begin the weekend with House of Pain, and get out your seat and jump around. Really, your bosses won’t mind. Promise.

Miley Cyrus’ cover of Poison’s Every Rose Has Its Thorn a preview of career

Miley Cyrus IIThe idea was recently tossed around that Miley Cyrus is ready to break out. She’s ready to shed her young-girl, Disney image in favor of a much more mature identity.

That’s hardly surprising as most recently music fans witnessed the transformation of pop princesses Brittany Spears and Christina Aguilera into (presumed) music queens.

Spears and Aguilera are far from music queens, but the point is, moving away from the junior high, pre-teen image is natural. The criticism from most is in the way it is done.

Aguilera had a brief period in which she became slightly edgier, but quickly resorted to a more conservative look. Spears, on the other hand, chose to go the Lindsey Lohan route. Not the conservative path most mothers might take, but it was probably the most economical. And that is the perceived direction Cyrus is hinting she might go.

New Video: Miley Cyrus Grows Up, Strips Down for “Party in the U.S.A”

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

So, young Miley Cyrus warmed our heart at Vh1 Divas last week, which was the first glimpse into this young singer who’s clearly looking to break the Disney mold. While joining her idol Sheryl Crow on the stage at Divas, Cyrus cheekily sung Crow’s hit “If It Makes You Happy,” by staying true to the lyrics (“I still get stoned”). Well, not many folks picked up on that, but Cyrus is going for broke with her latest video for “Party in the U.S.A.”

The video, which was just released yesterday features Cyrus in a few popstar looking to shed the teenage persona essentials. Short shorts? Check. Push up bra? Check. Accentuated Clevage? Check.

Now, this is still pretty tame in comparison to what Britney Spears was doing at the ripe age pf 16, but it’s a step in the same direction. Anyone else find it odd that young female stars always try to shed their childhood image by taking off their clothes? Check out the video below, let us know what you think…

About The Round Table

We started as a three friends having conversations about music during lunches together at the office. Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
