Robyn Live & Unplugged in London, featuring Dancing On My Own

Robyn live from the Rimmel Room

Robyn, aka TRT’s favorite femme fatale, recently stopped by London’s 95.8 Capital FM to perform “Dancing On My Own,” and two more tracks from her new album Body Talk Part 1. The renditions here are pretty stripped down and really prove that this Swede can sing.

Take that T-Pain.

The other songs performed were “Hang with Me” and “With Every Heartbeat.” If I were picking a favorite from this set, I would have to go with the “Hang with Me,” though “Dancing On My Own” is by far my favorite track on the proper album.

At any rate, check out all three videos here. I would love to post them below, but whupps, they’re private. Thanks 98.3!

Review: Body Talk Pt. 1 Proves Robyn Is The Pop Star We Need

Robyn - Body Talk Part 1 Cover Art

Robyn‘s rise to popularity is not unlike like most pop stars from the 90s –through television. Although, unlike the mediocre sketch comedy Disney-machine stories of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and even Miley Cyrus, Robyn recorded a show’s theme song at the age of 12 and performed a self-penned song not long after. Just like Britney & Christina, she scored her first U.S. top ten around the age of 17, with Robyn’s in ’97 and theirs a year later. To be fair, Robyn is Swedish, and, it bears mentioning, a few years older than those Mouseketeers (she turned 31 this past Saturday). The former fact makes her cooler, while the latter has made her wiser and more self-aware than any other pop star. Unfortunately, awareness can come with a price, like self-isolation from too much introspection –a recurring theme on Body Talk Pt. 1.

Video: Behind The Scenes of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own”

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

As Jayvee previously mentioned, TRT favorite Robyn is hard at work on the video for “Dancing On My Own”. In less than 24 hours (!) we’ll have the full vid, but this will have to tide us over for now.

so. freaking. excited.

Robyn’s working again with “Be Mine” director Max Vitali, in a seemingly literal take on the song’s concept: our girl’s at a rave-ish type club where she spots the object of affection of her affection with somebody else. This, peppered with shots of Robyn dancing determinedly and aggressively (venting her frustrations and sadness through the art of dance, natch) to choreography by Decida, is looking to be a pretty cool video. Not only that, but as Robyn mentions in the clip, the video features a backdrop lighting structure similar to what she’s going to bring on tour with her. Looks pretty badass to me. I can’t wait to see how that shapes up.

Body Talk Pt. 1 (which has already leaked in full) is being officially released on June 15.

New Music: Robyn “Dancing On My Own” by Patrick Berger

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Another week, another Robyn leak (so much for Bad Music Monday)! Off her upcoming Body Talk Pt. 1, “Dancing On My Own” plays like the hardest hitting Kleerup-Robyn collabo we’ve heard to date –though as I’ve been corrected in the comments, the production was actually done by Patrik Berger, who co-wrote the track with Robyn. Robyn and Berger previously worked together on Robyn, where he has writing and production credits for “Any Time You Like” and “Jack U Off” respectively. As a narrative, “Dancing On My Own” is on par with “With Every Heartbeat” or “Be Mine!”, though the lyrics portray a less desperate approach to not getting what/who you want –a non-phased acceptance if you will. Or, Robyn could be just feigning ‘coolness’ as a reaction to this realization. Then, of course, there is the whole other Billy Idol meaning of dancing on your own, but I won’t go into that…

Give it a listen and see if you can stop with just one. I know I couldn’t.

Body Talk Pt. 1 is scheduled to drop June 7 in the U.K. and June 8 in the U.S.

Music News: Robyn “None of Dem” featuring Royksopp

Monday, April 12th, 2010

None of DemWhat do you get when you pair Robyn with Royksopp? Pure dark, dancehall perfection. But don’t take our word for it, head on over to Robyn’s official site and listen to her latest song “None of Dem.”

The song will be released as a single on April 13th and will also be part of her upcoming EP, Body Talk Part 1. In typical Robyn-Royksopp fashion, the song is a flawless blend of subtle (and not so subtle) disses over an infectious, moody repetitive groove.

Just to up the fun factor, you can record and upload a video of yourself to her website dancing to “None of Dem” if you so desire. We didn’t participate, but did marvel at Robyn grooving along.

Listen to Robyn’s “None of Dem” now.
