As a perpetual touring artist, Tony Lucca is no stranger to the noisy dive bar scene – regardless of which city he finds himself in. While there are always going to be loud, disrespectful people who (drunkenly) chat their way through his set, that doesn’t mean that he isn’t keenly aware to the fact that his fans paid their hard-earned cash to experience his show. With that in mind, Mr. Lucca faced the disruption head on, suppressed his frustration after addressing the situation briefly and went on to deliver a stellar performance.
He switched it up from his typical acoustic setting and was accompanied by a keyboardist and percussionist. As always Mr. Lucca mixed crowd favorites like “So Long,” “Death of Me,” and “Melancholy Collar” with newer songs in “Undertow,” “Foxy Jane,” and “Stay With Me.” (aka the Britney/JT song). He even shared a poignant moment as he unveiled his newest song written for his now 8-week-old daughter. Thankfully even the loud talkers in the back of the venue managed to listen albeit ever so briefly.
Looking for a way to keep warm on a cold December night? Well, we have the perfect remedy. The incomparable Tony Lucca hits NYC for one night only, Friday, December 11th, at Sullivan Hall.
Mr. Lucca will be joined by fellow singer-songwriters Matt Lowell and Josh Hoge. Doors are at 7:00p and the show starts at 7:30p (sharp). If you like acoustic bluesy-rock mixed with pop and folk influences, you won’t want to miss this show. Over the last seven years I’ve brought many friends (some not even music fans) to Tony Lucca shows around the U.S. and each one has left his show a fan. He’s that good.
There’s never a question about it, Britney Spears has the innate ability to cause massive buzz around anything she does whether it’s walking to Starbucks or releasing a video. This holds true for her latest effort in “3” where the crafty popstar (ok, her camp) devised an online tease campaign using her official site and Twitter in advance of releasing the new video.
For the last few days, Spears has been releasing screen-caps of the video via Twitter, but now we finally get to see the official release all together. She went the minimalist route, dancers vamping it up and even some new choreography to go along with it. Not gonna lie, Brit-Brit still knows how to mug for the camera and the leg split on her male dancer is pretty hot. Watch it for yourself. What do you think — was it worth the wait?
Britney Spears is getting set to release the official video for her latest (controversial) single, “3” on Friday, Oct 30th. In case you’ve been living under a rock “3″ is apparently all about threesomes, so it should be interesting to see what the Spears camp came up with for the video. So far, from the images that were released via Brit-Brit’s official Twitter feed today look pretty tame. Check them out below.
Can’t help but wonder if Marlon Wayans’ feels vindicated now that his infamous (and semi-premature at the time) line from the MTV VMA Awards in 2000 about Britney Spears has now come true? (“Britney Spears went from the Mickey Mouse Club to the strip club.”)
Britney Spears fans, are you ready? The cover art of her upcoming greatest hits album titled, The Singles Collection, has officially hit the internets. Have to say, I love how they incorporated images from all eight of her albums (damn that’s alot!) with a very simple black backdrop and Britney signature.
The album which is set for release on November 24th will be available as a standard CD or deluxe edition. Standard option includes 16 of Britney’s best selling hits in its own slip sleeve case with original artwork and an additional b-side or a remix of the track as well as the newest single “3.” Meanwhile, the deluxe edition will include all of the above as well as a DVD featuring all of Britney’s videos in chronological order. Needless to see, non-Britney fans need not apply for this one.
So, young Miley Cyrus warmed our heart at Vh1 Divas last week, which was the first glimpse into this young singer who’s clearly looking to break the Disney mold. While joining her idol Sheryl Crow on the stage at Divas, Cyrus cheekily sung Crow’s hit “If It Makes You Happy,” by staying true to the lyrics (“I still get stoned”). Well, not many folks picked up on that, but Cyrus is going for broke with her latest video for “Party in the U.S.A.”
The video, which was just released yesterday features Cyrus in a few popstar looking to shed the teenage persona essentials. Short shorts? Check. Push up bra? Check. Accentuated Clevage? Check.
Now, this is still pretty tame in comparison to what Britney Spears was doing at the ripe age pf 16, but it’s a step in the same direction. Anyone else find it odd that young female stars always try to shed their childhood image by taking off their clothes? Check out the video below, let us know what you think…
With ratings of the Video Music Awards (VMAs) steadily declining, it has been no surprise that for the last few years MTV has done its best to highlight celebrities in attendance that were potential ticking-time bombs. Two words: Britney Spears.
Well, with Miss Brit on the mend or at least on tour, MTV came up with the next best option –piggy-back off of Michael Jackson’s death. Leading up to the show, MTV promos aired teasing this year would be a special tribute show featuring an appearance by the typically low-key Janet Jackson. As it turns out, it was the storyline they didn’t draft (for once) that they can thank for the ratings spike. Enter Kanye West.
Since, we’ve already said a mouthful about Kanye’s antics, so we won’t rehash it, rather, it’s important to note that MTV Networks enjoyed a nice ratings bump on the VMAs, which was only magnified by the now infamous Kanye/Swift confrontation. According to Digital Music News, the VMAs garnered a crowd of 26.9 million, up 17 percent from 23 million last year. That measures the number of people that watched the show at some point – across MTV, MTV2, and VH1 – a total that can fluctuate in reaction to real-time occurrences like theKanye interruption. Overall, the average viewer base was the best since 2004, and among the under-35 set, MTV Networks scored its best showing since 2005.
Why do religious zealots fight each other, when all they wanna do is fuck? Don’t they realize they have so much in common?
That’s kind of the theme of YACHT’s ridiculous video for “Psychic City (Voodoo City)”, the first single off their excellent second DFA release, See Mystery Lights. First, it starts off with a slightly tweaked version of the intro from both Michael Jackson’s Thriller video and the 1985 film Teen Wolf. Then we’re shown various shots composed of white/black, light/dark juxtaposition of christian vs. pagan rituals, which eventually build (or dissolve) to childlike role-playing in a giant open field. Oh, and there’s some exploding triangles in there for good measure.
The video, plus my review of the album, after the cut. (more…)
There’s no question Britney Spears is far beyond her peers when it comes to age and hits. At the age of 27, Britney has made millions hand over fist, been married and divorced twice, has two kids, and now is about to embark on her second great hits album. Yes, second. Um, that’s one greatest hits album more than Janet Jackson, who has a good 20 years and as many hits on the “pop princess.”
According to Sony Music Australia, Britney Spears will release another two-disc greatest hit album called The Singles Collection on October 26th, a mere 5 years since her first greatest hits album back in 2004. Aside from the standard Britney hits, the next greatest hits chapter will feature cuts from Blackout and Circus as well as four previously unreleased tracks. No word if this latest collection will hit the States, but if you’re a Britney fan, it’s pretty safe to say you already have the majority, if not all of these tracks.
I’m having a Jerry Maguire moment. Ya know – one of those days where you can’t take being beat down by the same nonsensical bullsh-t anymore and have to speak up.
Let me preface this by saying I am NOT a Madonna fan. I grew up with her music, yes, and over time I came to respect her as an artist, but I am in no way a “fan.” That’s important to know.
I’m sorry, but who anointed her “the new queen of pop.” Seems a bit premature to dub someone Madonna’s title when at the age of 50, Madonna’s still kicking hard, creating music for the masses, and selling out arenas at $400 a ticket. Again, I’m not a fan, but I can recognize the difference between someone who changes music (heck even the world’s perceptions through music) than a low rent impostor like Gaga.
We started as a three friends having conversations about music during lunches together at the office. Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
