RT Picks: Dave Matthews “Shake Me like a Monkey” & White Rabbits “Percussion Gun”

Monday, June 8th, 2009

White Rabbits – “Percussion Gun”
from It’s Frightening

White Rabbits are an indie rock band based in Brooklyn by way of Missouri. “Percussion Gun” features… well… heavy percussive sounds with a prominent bass-line and minimalistic approach to instrumentation. The first time I heard this song was blaring over speakers at the Highline Ballroom and I was hooked instantly. Be sure to check out the video for “Percussion Gun.”

Percussion Gun – White Rabbits

Dave Matthews Band – “Shake Me Like a Monkey”
From Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King

“Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King” gets off to a rollicking start with this sax-spiked uptempo tune that finds Dave using both his “peace and love” persona and his “get in your pants” persona effectively.

The Local Scene

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

image14408en1Welcome to The Local Scene. This will be a weekly post currently dedicated to who’s performing in the NYC, LA, Boston and Chicago areas (cities represented by RT contributors). We encourage all RT readers and fans to come back and comment on shows you’ve attended and what your experience was.

If there is any artist, city or venue you’d like us to add, please let us know by commenting below. We will do our best to accommodate your request… within reason. For example, no one cares if your school glee club is performing in the gymnasium or at the local retirement village. When they book The Bitter End or Troubadour we’ll re-evaluate ;-)

Now get out there and enjoy the show(s).

About The Round Table

We started as a three friends having conversations about music during lunches together at the office. Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
