New Millah Mix: May 2010 feat. Katy Perry, Menomena, MGMT, Robyn, Sleigh Bells, Usher and more!

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

UPDATED AGAIN AGAIN – Link is back! – “Alps” removed per request by Ratatat/XL Recordings. Replaced with LazerProof!

Memorial Day is upon us. Finally, it’s like, really Summer. Let’s celebrate the warmer weather and our fleeting freedom from the daily grind with some excellent new music. So call your friends, fire up the grill and pop open a cold one, cause this is the May 2010 Millah Mix. It’s rocking some brand new tracks from Robyn (you should be shocked if she wasn’t included), Usher, Sleigh Bells (amazing album –you must get it!), MGMT, and yes, even Katy Perry –who is making her second Millah Mix appearance in just as many weeks (if you recall, she did an awesome cover of the aforementioned MGMT’s “Electric Feel”). Oh yeah, and there’s also a brand spankin’ new Menomena track, as well as some new Ratatat, off their yet-to-be-released LP4 delightful LazerProof.

I dunno about you, but I always go really pop-y during the Summer. Honestly, it’s when radio gets the best and most ridiculous songs. Which is why this month’s mix is peppered with a few (more) radio-friendly tracks than ever before (coughKaty Perrycough). At any rate, I hope you enjoy it!

New Mix: Cover Me (Again)! feat. Mates of States, CSS, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and many more!

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Back again with this month’s themed mix (as opposed to each month’s straight-up-awesome new music mixes): more cover songs! This time around the picks are a bit more random. Sometimes it’s a create band, sometimes it’s a great song –sometimes it’s both. And, as I mentioned with the last covers mix, this is by no means my definitive cover songs mix. Though, I gotta say, this mix is great. Fantastic, even. Oh, and it’s longer, both in time (70+ minutes!) and number of tracks (21!). Seriously, this is the Longest.Millah Mix.Ever.

Ghostface Millah Mix: Vol. 6 – Howlin’ For You (new Robyn, LCD Soundsystem, and more!)

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

With Summer just around the corner, I tried to lighten up the mood a bit from March’s new music mix –which, to be honest, turned out a bit more sullen/inaccessible than I intended. So, sorry about that. To rectify, I’m back with a collection of 18 (!) excellent new/leaked tracks that make me nostalgic for two of my favorite Summer pastimes: driving around on a nice day and partying with friends all night. Some of the song choices are pretty obvious (ahem, “Ridin’ in My Car” & “Dance Floor”), but that doesn’t make them any less good.

And on that note, I give you Volume 6 in the esteemed Ghostface Millah Mix series. Oh, and if you like their respective tracks on this mix, then def check out the Delorean, Julieta Venegas and Robyn albums. All very good stuff.

Ghostface Millah Mix: Vol. 5 – No Idea What You’re Saying Right Now (Non-English Mix)

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Call me Wes Anderson if you want, but sometimes I like stuff more cause it’s foreign. I mean that as in things that are completely foreign to me (like, I dunno, farming) and things in a foreign language (see: Let The Right One In. No, seriously, see it. It’s awesome). Since I can’t/don’t want to make a mix about farming, I’ll just make one with some of my favorite songs where I have pretty much no idea what they’re saying. And I don’t care. To me it’s no different from listening to Animal Collective or latter years Bob Dylan; the lyrics don’t say as much as the song as a whole, as the feeling you get when you listen to it.

Without further ado, I present Volume 5 in the Ghostface Millah Mix series.

Free Music: Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 4 – Spring Awesomeness! (feat. new MGMT, Dr. Dog & more)

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Although I’m the first to complain about losing that precious hour of sleep for DST, I really do love Spring with it’s hopeful themes of rebirth and renewal –not to mention chocolate bunnies and colored eggs (oh wait, that’s just Easter). At any rate, I present to you: Ghostface Millah Mix, Volume 4 – Spring Awesomeness! Still going for that Side A/Side B album kinda feel: Side A is more melancholic (Winter melting away…) and Side B is more uptempo & hopeful (Spring is here!) –with everything being recently released or dropping soon.

Oh, and p.s. the Gonjasufi and MGMT albums are great. If you like their respective tracks on this mix, I highly recommend you pickup the full-lengths.

Free Music: Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 3 (Recent Cover Songs Edition!)

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

So this mix is a little different than earlier ones… For starters, it has a theme –cover songs!– and subsequently a title that’s slightly more descriptive. That being said, I’m still sticking with the whole whatever-excellent-new-music-I’ve-acquired-or-gotten-into-of-late, only this time they’re all covers. Which is basically just me saying this is by no means my definitive cover songs mix –that would, most likely, include The Braids‘ version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Sheryl Crow’s take on “D’Yer Mak’er” and a slew of other randoms…

But I digress. I present to you: Cover Me!, the Ghostface Millah Mix, Volume 3. There’s some really well-knowns on here, referring to both songs and artists, but the overall intention is to make it a cohesive album with the traditional SIDE A / SIDE B kinda feeling. Basically, SIDE A is fun/upbeat and SIDE B is more down tempo…

After the jump, download, listen and let me know what you think.

Free Music: Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 2 (More Awesome New/Leaked Music!)

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

By “popular” “demand” I’m continuing what I started with last month’s Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 1 by giving you, dear readers, whatever excellent new music I’ve acquired or gotten-into of late. I present to you the Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 2.

If I do say so myself, it’s better than the first. For starters, it’s longer which means more goodness for you, and, just like last time, it’s a decent combo of blogosphere well-knowns and some deeper cuts from recently released albums to which I just can’t stop listening.

Download, listen and let me know what you think!
