Free Music: Ghostface Millah Mix Volume 3 (Recent Cover Songs Edition!)

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

So this mix is a little different than earlier ones… For starters, it has a theme –cover songs!– and subsequently a title that’s slightly more descriptive. That being said, I’m still sticking with the whole whatever-excellent-new-music-I’ve-acquired-or-gotten-into-of-late, only this time they’re all covers. Which is basically just me saying this is by no means my definitive cover songs mix –that would, most likely, include The Braids‘ version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Sheryl Crow’s take on “D’Yer Mak’er” and a slew of other randoms…

But I digress. I present to you: Cover Me!, the Ghostface Millah Mix, Volume 3. There’s some really well-knowns on here, referring to both songs and artists, but the overall intention is to make it a cohesive album with the traditional SIDE A / SIDE B kinda feeling. Basically, SIDE A is fun/upbeat and SIDE B is more down tempo…

After the jump, download, listen and let me know what you think.

Kelly Clarkson Addresses Beyonce Dispute: “Already Gone” vs “Halo”

Monday, July 27th, 2009

The always outspoken Kelly Clarkson is locked in another bitter dispute with her label, RCA, who clearly refuses to give the singer creative control. But this time it’s more than just a power struggle as her new single, “Already Gone,” is steeped in controversy because it sounds exactly like the new  Beyoncé song.

But it’s not what you think. There’s actually an extremely good reason behind the similarities that has nothing to do with Clarkson wanting to emulate Beyoncé (and therefore success). Rather, it seems Clarkson was duped by her writing partner on the album, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) and isn’t taking it lightly.

According to the NY Post, Clarkson realized that “Already Gone,” which she co-wrote with Tedder, was a dead-ringer for another Tedder tune aka Beyoncé’s “Halo.” As Clarkson tells the story, Tedder gave both singers a tune with the same backing track — without telling Clarkson, who wrote the lyrics.

By the time Clarkson realized the similarities, her CD All I Ever Wanted was ready to be shipped — making it too late to make any changes. According to the same NY Post article, Clarkson confronted her co-writer on the phone saying, “I don’t understand. Why would you do that? No one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyoncé and Kelly the same track to write to.’ ” she said. “No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off.”

New Video: Beyonce Touts Her “Ego”

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Beyonce is back again with another video off I Am…Sasha Fierce. This time, she’s boasting about her “Ego.” And yes, she’s rocking the three ladies dancing in a leotard theme from “Single Ladies.” In fact, she must’ve decided to only wear leotards in videos to promote this album as she also rocks one in “Halo.”

It’s a pretty simple setup, it’s got some sex appeal to it, but also class and the black and white video works perfectly.  At the very least, B aka Mrs. Carter is looking hot and this will become the anthem for egomaniacs.

So what do you think? Love it or leave it?
