Is there anyone that’s been on more tracks as of late than Nicki Minaj? Didn’t think so. Now, she’s landed a spot on Mariah Carey’s latest single “Up Out of My Face” as well as the video directed by Mr. Carey (Nick Cannon) himself.
In the video, Mariah and Nicki live out their best interpretation of a Barbie-Doll dress-up dream. Nothing earth-shattering here, just a fun video to get lost in, even though it looks like a Target logo threw-up all over the place. Stick around for Nick Cannon’s cameo at the end, some Drumline 2 action going on there.
“Up Out My Face” is available on Mariah’s “Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel” Remix album or you can visit our friends at Sound Savvy for a preview/download.Watch the video after the cut. What say you?

Vh1revived its Divas show after a four year hiatus and crowned a new crop of “sirens” last night at the Brooklyn Music Academy to share the status of diva-dom with the likes past recipients in Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Celin Dion and more. New “inductees” to the Diva family included Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus, Adele, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks, and of course, Kelly Clarkson. Though these young talents still have a lot to prove when it comes to longevity in relation to their predecessors, one thing is for certain, these ladies came to sing.
The show started off with an energetic, sometimes spastic and clearly lip-synced medley from host Paula Abdul featuring past hits in “Cold Hearted Snake,” “Forever Girl,” Straight Up,” and “Opposites Attract.” Thankfully, the real talent took to the stage soon after as lovely Jennifer Hudson knocked out her hit “Spotlight,” followed by a more subdued Kelly Clarkson who slowed things down with her current single “Already Gone,” backed by the majority of her band (where was DJ Ric?!).
Is Mariah Careyobsessing over her new album? Word has it the diva has once again pushed back the release date of her upcoming album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel again. The album was originally slated for an August 25th release, then pushed to September 15th, and is now according to her website set for release on September 29th.
Along with pushing back the album, Mariah has canceled a slew of promotional appearances, which has the internets abuzz with rumors. She was originally slated to usher back in VH1’s “Storytellers” with an intimate performance for die-hard fans, but axed it at the last minute. Aside from a (lackluster) guest spot on her hubby, Nick Cannon’s show “America’s Got Talent,” Mariah hasn’t fulfilled any previously scheduled appearances, which has quite a few folks in the industry peeved.
Vh1 is reviving the Divas show after a four year hiatus and has crowned a new crop of “sirens.” On tap to lead the all-star line up are Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis andMiley Cyrus. Miley, who?!
Adele makes sense. The girl can straight up sing. Kelly Clarkson, well you know our feelings about KC by now, but we’ll refresh your memory. She’s quite possibly the most underrated female “popstar” out there. She not only sings her ass off, but she actually writes and produces her own music – unlike the majority of chicks in the game. That’s right Princess RiRi, we’re looking at you.
American Idolwinner and country music superstar, Carrie Underwood, will release her third studio album on November 3rd. According to Underwood’s website, the singer is currently completing the project, which is still untitled, but a new single is expected to be released late this summer.
Underwood has opted to work with producer Mark Bright again, who worked on the singer’s previous albums Some Hearts (2005) and Carnival Ride (2007). The album will also feature songs produced by Jim Jonsin(Lil Wayne’s Lollipop), Johnta Austin(Mariah Carey, Mary J Blige), Kara DioGuardi(Ashlee Simpson), and Darrell Scott (Dixie Chicks).
With an who’s who roster of mainstream producers like that – it’s safe to say Underwood is looking for another cross-genre smash. She has sold more than 10 million albums since winning American Idol in 2005 — not too shabby for a farm girl from Oklahoma.
Mariah is back with a new single, “Obsessed,” that will appear on her upcoming album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” The central theme of the track is Mimi asking: “why you so obsessed with me?” I don’t know, Mimi, are we really obsessed with you? I think not.
But rumor has it that this is a little diss track aimed at Eminem for putting her on blast in the song “Bagpipes from Baghdad,” off his new album. (Sample Em lyric: “Nick Cannon better back the fuck up/ I’m not playin’ / I want her back you punk / This is Hello Kitty bedspread satin funk.”)
Sadly, Mimi follows the trend of all the autotune slackers of late – or as I like to call it “T-Pains” the track. Vocoder aside, it’s just a boring ass track. It’s not awful, I mean we’ve heard worse by now, but it sounds like everything else out at the moment, which is disappointing. Let’s face it Mimi, Eminem gave you a REASON to get people chatting about the new album, which we are — and this is all you come with?
Mariah is one of the most successful female artists around — with one of the greatest voices, but even she is following trends. A bad trend at that. BTW, Mariah, you’re totally obsessing about the fact that Em is obsessing over you — why don’t we all just move on? Also, you’re too grown of a woman to say lines like “lyin that you’re sexin’ me.”
