Music Video: Ludacris “My Chick Bad” Remix ft. Eve, Diamond & Trina

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Last month we posted the latest video from Ludacris in “My Chick Bad,” which featured the oh-so-hot-right now Nicki Minaj. The song itself left us underwhelmed (to put it nicely) aside from Minaj’s guest appearance. Well, either Luda was reading along or perhaps he had this song in mind for a remix all along because just this week he dropped the video for the remix of “My Chick Bad” featuring fellow ATLer Diamond and Miami based Trina. Newbies aside, Ludacris managed to get veteran female emcee Eve on the track, which begs the question E-V-E where the heck is your solo album? For good measure Young Money’s Nicki Minaj makes a cameo on the video, but doesn’t have a verse (too bad).

Guess it’s a pretty nice representation of female rappers of today, but definitely doesn’t live up to Busta Rhymes female lineup on the “Touch It Remix,” which featured Mary J Blige, Missy Elliot, and Rah Digga a few years back! It’d be dope to see a rhyme off between the industry legends and the new blood. Who can we call to get this going?

The much publicized 2009 American Music Awards came and went in a flash. A night that promised unbelievable performances with an A-List lineup faltered with over dramatic acts and numerous missed notes, that is when folks were actually singing live. As the AMA’s crowned a new crop of stars, it was the veterans who stole the show with professionalism and grace.

The night started with an 8-minute medley from Janet Jackson who mixed some of her greatest hits in “If,” “Miss You Much,” “Control” and “Together Again,” with her latest single “Make Me.” Though evident Miss Jackson has lost a step or two as of late, she set the standard for female “pop” stars who desperately tried to mimic her all night long with dance troupes. The epitome of a performer, Janet genuinely seemed to relish her moment in the spotlight.

Best vocal performance of the evening? A tie between Kelly Clarkson and Mary J Blige. Say what you want about Kelly’s weight or odd outfit, or lack of nominations, that girl can flat out sing and she proves it every time she hits the stage. She was so good that we were able to forgive her for singing “Already Gone” for the millionth time. Seriously, that song needs to go. Meanwhile, Mary J Blige hit all the right notes as she belted her new single “I Am.” Take notes young R&B stars — MJB is the truth.

VH1’s New Crop of “Divas”: Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Adele….Miley Cyrus?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Vh1 is reviving the Divas show after a four year hiatus and has crowned a new crop of “sirens.” On tap to lead the all-star line up are Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus. Miley, who?!

Adele makes sense. The girl can straight up sing. Kelly Clarkson, well you know our feelings about KC by now, but we’ll refresh your memory. She’s quite possibly the most underrated female “popstar” out there. She not only sings her ass off, but she actually writes and produces her own music – unlike the majority of chicks in the game. That’s right Princess RiRi, we’re looking at you.
