Pharell Williams and N.E.R.D. just released a teaser for their music video “Hot n’ Fun,” which features Nelly Furtado. The song itself drives me insane — mind-numbing repetition with zero substance.
But let’s face it, I love Nelly Furtado, so making it through the :30 second teaser was well worth it.
Dear Nelly, how about you stop being the hook girl on crappy hip hop songs and get working on your next English language album. Top 40 Radio needs you. I need you.
Looks like Nelly Furtado has no plans to slow down after releasing her first full-length Spanish album Mi Plan last year. It’s rumored that the Canadian singer will release her next English language album, Lifestyle, on May 25th.
As always, Furtado’s roster of producers reads like a “who’s hot of the moment” list and includes Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse), Ryan Tedder (Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson), and Tiesto.
Furtado will also reunite with Timbaland who executive produced her 2006 chart-topping album Loose. If I were the betting type, I’d put money on Justin Timberlake popping up on at least one song.
Justin Bieber, the Justin Timberlake to the Miley Cyrus generation, will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam concert series on Feburary 4th in Miami, Florida. Beiber will be joined by Rihanna who will perform songs off her latest release R Rated.
The Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam concert series is a two-day event prior to the Super Bowl XLIV sponsored by NFL and Pepsi. Free tickets for both concerts will be available at Ticket Master beginning Monday, January 11 on a first-come, first serve basis.
Timbaland calls on Miley Cyrus for the latest leaked track “We Belong to Music” which will appear on his upcoming album Shock Value 2. Unlike many of the previously leaked tracks, “We Belong to Music” actually sounds fresh or more accurately, at least it doesn’t sound like a poor-man’s B-side from Justin Timberlake’sFuture Sex Love Sounds.
Thankfully, Timbo takes a backseat on this song, letting Cyrus own it. After all, it makes more sense to have the teenager sing about getting primped to hit the town of a night of dancing and such. Nothing earth-shattering here, but it’s a fun, mindlessly danceable track.
Give it a listen below. Shock Value 2 hits stores on December 2nd.
The much publicized 2009 American Music Awards came and went in a flash. A night that promised unbelievable performances with an A-List lineup faltered with over dramatic acts and numerous missed notes, that is when folks were actually singing live. As the AMA’s crowned a new crop of stars, it was the veterans who stole the show with professionalism and grace.
The night started with an 8-minute medley from Janet Jackson who mixed some of her greatest hits in “If,” “Miss You Much,” “Control” and “Together Again,” with her latest single “Make Me.” Though evident Miss Jackson has lost a step or two as of late, she set the standard for female “pop” stars who desperately tried to mimic her all night long with dance troupes. The epitome of a performer, Janet genuinely seemed to relish her moment in the spotlight.
Best vocal performance of the evening? A tie between Kelly Clarkson and Mary J Blige. Say what you want about Kelly’s weight or odd outfit, or lack of nominations, that girl can flat out sing and she proves it every time she hits the stage. She was so good that we were able to forgive her for singing “Already Gone” for the millionth time. Seriously, that song needs to go. Meanwhile, Mary J Blige hit all the right notes as she belted her new single “I Am.” Take notes young R&B stars — MJB is the truth.
Nelly Furtado, the Grammy award winning artist, made history today with her lead single “Manos al Aire” as she became the first North American artist to score a #1 hit with an original Spanish song on Billboard’s “Hot Latin Songs” Chart. “Manos al Aire” is also number #1 overseas in Italy, Colombia, Chile and Central America.
Furtado is set to release her fourth studio album and first full Spanish language album on September 15th here in the U.S.. For the new album, Furtado kept with her diverse sound by working with artists from all over the world including: Alejandro Fernandez, Josh Groban, Juan Luis Guerra, Julieta Venegas, La Mala Rodriguez, Buika And Alex Cuba.
According to a press release on the singer’s site, starting on September 13th, Nelly will start an intensive promo tour in the U.S. as well as overseas in support of the new album.
Well, Nelly Furtado has finally stopped teasing us and released the video for “Manos al Aire,” the lead single off her full length Spanish album debut Mi Plan, to be released on September 26th.
So, for those of you who don’t understand Spanish, what’s this song all about? According to Nelly , it’s about “surrendering to love.” The story “revolves around a woman who is always going on her own ego and telling her love interest what to do. But at the end, the woman has her hands in the air and says to her lover, ‘I just want peace and I surrender to this love and I only care about loving you. I wanna love you, we love each other like we used to.’”
As with most of her songs (minus “Promiscuous“), Nelly takes an honest look at love and relationships. However, what’s always been a sore point for the singer is her video concepts or lack thereof, with the exception of “Try.” We were hoping Nelly finally would step up her video game with this new release, but sadly, she didn’t.
A few weeks back we told you Nelly Furtado was in the process of prepping an all-spanish album. Now, we have the first clip of what is rumored to be the first single, “Manos Al Aire.”
Be sure to give a listen below. Again, it’s only a clip, so it’s hard to get an overall sense of the song, but as with all Nelly Furtado music, it sounds like an eclectic mix of instruments. Props to her team for starting to build the buzz and excitement in advance of the album release, which is rumored for September 26th release.
According to Billboard, Nelly Furtado will return to her Latina roots with an all Spanish album on Universal Music Latino.
The singer-songwriter burst on the mainstream scene back in 2000 with the highly infectious “I’m Like a Bird,” off the successful debut album Whoa…Nelly. While Furtado transformed into pop star status with her last release, Loose, she’s never been shy about mixing different sounds and experimenting with musical styles and languages.
Furtado, who is of Portuguese descent, recorded “Tu Fotografía,” a duet with Juanes, Colombian musician, which appeared on his album in 2002. Juanes later returned the favor by pairing again for “Te Busqué,” which appeared on Furtado’s Loose.
Although largely ignored by mainstream consumers, her 2003 release, Folklore, was highly eclectic in sound and heavily influenced by her Portuguese upbringing. The album focused around the dual life of being of Latino descent, but growing up in North American culture.
The all Spanish album is set for release on September 26th. I’m excited to see what Furtado has in store for this album, but I’m hoping she goes back to her song-writing roots vs. relying on the likes of Timbaland or even Calle 13 for collaborations.
We started as a three friends having conversations about music during lunches together at the office. Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
