Super producer and sometimes rapper, Jermaine Dupri took a break from Sunday’s NBA All-Star game festivities to chat with MTV News about Janet Jackson’s new song “Nothing.” While JD did his best to dodge specifics of Janet’s new single, he did let us in on a few nuggets of info. The song will be featured on the soundtrack of Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?, in which Janet stars.
JD spoke about how quickly the song project came together by saying, “We had to do this record in like three days to get it into this movie – it was a last minute thing that her and Tyler [Perry] talked about.”
You’ve heard me wax-poetic on how completely amazing Tony Lucca is in the past so I’ll keep this post short. Just two days ago, Mr. Lucca premiered his newest song “Anchored” during an appearance on Peter Himmelman’s “Furious World.” Check out the performance below. Oh, and you’re welcome.
The Veronicas, Lisa and Jess, spread some Christmas cheer. Decked out in Santa hats, the twin sisters recorded two videos – the first is a special message to fans thanking them for all the support this year and talk about their new song “Could’ve Been,” which is slated to appear on their new record.
Meanwhile, the second video captures the sisters performing “Could’ve Been” acoustic, sans Santa hats. The acoustic number is a bit of a change of pace for the sisters who have become known for their more uptempo, electro-pop stylings present on their’09 hit “Untouched.”
If you’re a Veronicas fan – you’ll probably dig the girls stripped down (musically). Check out their new song “Could’ve Been” after the cut.
Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs) and Cory Chisel (The Wandering Sons) took some time out from their busy touring schedule to wish their fans happy holidays. Joined by their fellow tour-mates and family, Benson and Chisel recite a holiday poem. Gotta love’em – Props to the guys for keeping a straight face. Watch it below. Then, go buy the duo’s single “Born Again” featuring Patrick Keeler.
Oh, Timbo! Timbaland is back with a new track, “Morning After Dark,” which is rumored to appear on his next release Shock Value II, due to hit stores on November 23rd. At first I was tempted to dismiss “Morning After Dark” as simple throw away from his last album, but after a few listens it’s catchy as hell. Right, it’s still the standard uptempo dance track with heavy synths and and intricate claps/stomps, and video game sound effects galore, but the combination of SoShy with Nelly Furtado blazing her verse (at 2:00 minute mark) works for me. What say you? Love it or hate it? Listen before it gets pulled.
One of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite albums of 2009, La Roux’s “I’m Not Your Toy” song + video is a perfect example of the duo’s mastering of the 80s synth pop sound and attitude –this time with a less moody, more fun vibe.
Singer/synth player Elly Jackson, with her trademark Flock of Seagulls-lite cockatoo hairstyle (see right), emerges from a pool like an androgynous siren set on bewitching a group of retro-yet-futuristic Caribbean hoi polloi. It’s like a Minority Report pool party in that crazy lady’s greenhouse, with Elly as a singing pre-cog in a sweet white pant suit. The backup dancers (!) are the shit and we finally get to see Ms. Jackson smile, albeit briefly.
Video + awesome remix + US Fall tour dates after the cut. (more…)
American Idol winner and country music superstar, Carrie Underwood, will release her third studio album on November 3rd. The lead single, “Cowboy Casanova,” the next wave of Underwood’s pop driven – country-rock is now available for purchase via iTunes.
Though dominating the country charts almost immediately after winning American Idol, Underwood finally found mainstream crossover success with her hit “Before He Cheats.” Her latest single hints that she’s looking for another crossover hit as “Cowboy Casanova” opens with a catchy drum beat and driving guitars as Underwood warns friends about this “snake with blue eyes.” It’s not my favorite offering from the talented vocalist, but it serves its purpose as a lead single.
We started as a three friends having conversations about music during lunches together at the office. Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
