I’m having a Jerry Maguire moment. Ya know – one of those days where you can’t take being beat down by the same nonsensical bullsh-t anymore and have to speak up.
Let me preface this by saying I am NOT a Madonna fan. I grew up with her music, yes, and over time I came to respect her as an artist, but I am in no way a “fan.” That’s important to know.
I’m sorry, but who anointed her “the new queen of pop.” Seems a bit premature to dub someone Madonna’s title when at the age of 50, Madonna’s still kicking hard, creating music for the masses, and selling out arenas at $400 a ticket. Again, I’m not a fan, but I can recognize the difference between someone who changes music (heck even the world’s perceptions through music) than a low rent impostor like Gaga.
Everyone and their mother (including us) has weighed in on the Perez altercation that went down on Sunday after the Much Music Awards, except Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.
Well, Will has finally released a statement — rather than addressing specifics of that night, he took the higher road and urges respect for others. Clearly, a concept Perez has never grasped. Read Will’s full statement after the cut.
First of all, I hate Perez Hilton. He’s another example of rising to stardom on the coattails of others, while also being completely disrespectful and flat out rude. And for some reason, our society has not only made him rich off of his evil ways, but continue to enable him. Well, I’m hoping things are about to change.
I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Will.I.Am incident, where he (or his manager) allegedly punched Perez Hilton after the Much Music Awards. The sad thing is not only did this incident occur, but Perez took the opportunity to turn it into another lame attempt to plead for attention. It’s sickening.
It’s not news to hear that the solo effort, Her Name Is Nicole, by Nicole Scherzinger, of the Pussycat Dolls or PCDs (as I like to call them), has been pushed back indefinitely due to lackluster reception to several sub-par singles that were released from 2006-2008. While the singles were pretty craptastic, it was still baffling to many to see Scherzinger’s solo career stall considering she is the name, face, and chops behind PCDs, the once Vegas dance troupe turn chart toppers.
Rather than fight the machine, Scherizinger opted to play the game and returned to the group that made her a household name. Since then, it’s been a pretty hectic year for the group who has been touring with the unpredictable Britney Spears in support of their second album Doll Domination (and now the re-released Doll Domination 2.0). In another (read: desperate) attempt to separate Scherzinger from her PCD counterparts, the label opted to promote all new singles as “The Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger.”
Needless to say, that re-branding ruffled some feathers and Scherzinger’s return to the group hasn’t been without its drama. Haters have come out in full force (myself included) and even in-group squabbles went public when Melody Thorton was tired of being one of Scherzinger’s glorified back up dancers and called her out in front of a sold out crowd. That video then spread online thanks to YouTube and bloggers like Just Jared and Perez Hilton as well as mainstream media like the NY DailyNews.
With all that’s gone on you’d think Scherzinger would’ve called it quits by now, but rather, she and the PCDs are chugging along. Today, the official video for their new single “Hush Hush,” hit the internets and while the song on the surface talks about a lover scorned one could probably apply the theme to Scherzinger’s current prediciment with lyrics like: “I don’t want to stay another minute/I don’t want you to say another word/Hush Hush, Hush Hush/There is no other way/I get the final say.”
And final say she will have as Scherzinger knows how to keep people talking. While “Hush Hush” starts off as a mid-tempo track, it quickly speeds up into a pretty catchy dance tune. They even managed to take the track up another notch (or downgrade depending on your stance) by mixing it with Gloria Gaynor’s powerhouse anthem “I Will Survive.” Check out the video below – pretty standard fare from the PCDs now featuring Nicole Scherzinger who has her solo moment at the video’s intro, splashing around naked in a bathtub. That’s worth at least a glance, right? Btw, the video below is pretty low quality – but you can watch it in HQ here (user disabled embed)
We started as a three friends having conversations about music during lunches together at the office. Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
