Break-out sensationB.o.B. wowed the audience during his recent MTV Unplugged performance with a mash-up of Vampire Weekend’s “The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance” and MGMT’s “The Kids.” Like that wasn’t awesome enough, B.o.B. brought out Janelle Monaeto accompany him during “Kids Don’t Stand a Chance.” Check out the performance below for yourself. Shout out to Ed-G for the tip, appreciate it!
Well, this is a pairing we just didn’t see coming. According to Rap-Up.com, Jay-Zand U2 will team up for a five-date tour down under to celebrate the launch of Live Nation Australia.
The tour will kick off at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on November 25th and make stops in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney. The final performance will take place at Perth’s Subiaco Oval and mark’s the first time U2 has played in Perth since 1998.
According to U2.com, tickets in all 5 cities there will be tickets available from $39.90, with general admission floor tickets available at $99.90. Additional reserved seat tickets also available starting at $99.90. Not too shabby to see Jay-Z and U2 share a bill for under $100 in my opinion!
Singer-songwriter Holly Miranda performed a sweat-soaked set at Littlefield in Brooklyn, NYC. Again, the fine folks at Baeble Music hooked us up with footage from the performance.
Check out Ms. Miranda performing “No One Just Is,” “Joints,” “I’d Rather Go Blind,” “Sleep on Fire,” and more.
We’ve embedded her performance of “High Tide” below, but be sure to head on over to Baeble Music to watch the nearly 30-minute set — it’s truly captivating.
While in NYC a few weeks back, Robyn put her spin on Alicia Keys’ “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” during her iheartradio session at P.C. Richard & Son Theater.
Check out the video below!
Robyn’s new album, Body Talk PT 2, is due out in the US on September 7th — you’ll want to stay tuned to TRT for a chance to win a SIGNED copy of it!
Robyn stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman the other night to perform her single “Dancing On My Own.” You must watch it because honestly, what’s a week without a Robyn mention? Show of hands — who’s been practicing her dance moves in the mirror? Ghostface, we might need to dance-off at her upcoming show in NYC.
The lovely Sara Bareilles is in full-on promotion mode to build buzz around her upcoming sophomore album Kaleidoscope Heart (Sept 7). Recently she stopped by VH1′s office here in NYC to perform two new songs, “King of Anything” and “Uncharted,” as well as “Love Song” and “Gravity” from her previous album, Little Voice.
The folks at VH1 were kind enough to post the performance videos so us plebes can enjoy Ms. Bareilles in all her glory. True to form, the singer busted out some quality crowd banter – she’s seriously funny – though can afford to lose the red lipstick.
Check out her performance of “Uncharted” below. Then head on over to VH1.com to view the rest of the videos.
Last night, Kelly Clarkson joined fellow American Idol alum Chris Daughtry on stage during a duet of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” in Nashville, Tennessee.
The guest appearance was no surprise to Clarkson fans as she announced being part of Daughtry’s concert-turned Nashville flood relief benefit via Twitter a few days back. Other performers included Three Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold and Lifehouse frontman Jason Wade.
Check out Ms. Clarkson’s and Mr. Daughtry’s take on a classic, which also happens to be one of my favorite songs ever written. Credit: RestlessChick15 for the video
Teen heartthrob Justin Bieberhas yet another hit on his hands with the latest single “Eenie Meanie.” This time, the young singer teams up with Sean Kingston, a teenage sensation in his own right, to create this ooey gooey warning of a girl’s indecisiveness when it comes to choosing her beau. The song theme is plucked straight from the childhood decision making tactic of eenie meanie minie moe — which is fitting considering both artists age.
While “Eenie Meanie” is featured on Bieber’s debut album, My World 2.0, it’s Kingston who stands out on this track. His reggae flair gives the song another layer to Bieber’s otherwise flat nasally, pre-pubescent vocals, not to mention, cross-genre appeal. Now, before the haterade kicks int, let’s just go ahead and categorize everything Bieber is doing as bubblegum pop 2.0 – playing off of vintage teenage pop themes that have been around for decades – but modernizing it to today’s world of genre hodgepodge and autotune bliss.
Go ahead give it a listen below (before it gets pulled) and see if you can resist the uber-catchy chorus. Oh, and BONUS BIEBER – we just updated with iheartradio’s live version of “Eenie Meanie” after the jump!
In case you were living under a rock yesterday, here’s the video of Carrie Underwood taking on the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Crazy Elvis jumpsuit aside, have to give Ms. Underwood props for going at one of the toughest vocal songs without pre-recording. Yes, it was a bit pitchy at times and the last note was atrocious, but honestly, I can’t hold a candle to this. Go, Carrie. Happy Monday.
Full disclosure. I LOVE Sara Bareilles. Why? Well, she’s a smart, singer-songwriter who writes incredibly witty/catch songs and manages to entertain without fire, blood, ridiculous outfits or stage antics. (What’s up now, Gaga?)
Yeah, you know Sara Bareilles for her massive hit “Love Song,” but what you don’t know is this girl could moonlight as a stand-up comedian. Trust me, her stage banter is so good that she’s guaranteed to have you in stitches.
Want proof? Just check out this video of Ms. Bareilles taking on everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure of the moment, MTV’s Jersey Shore, a reality show based on Italian 20-somethings who self-identify as “guidos.”
Set to the tune of Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” she delivers punchlines like “I have perfect abs/ They’re right above my crabs” among loads of F-bombs in a pretty awful, but accurate Jersey accent. Still have doubts? Watch her flow into The Eagles “Hotel California.” Amaze.
