Review: Body Talk Pt. 1 Proves Robyn Is The Pop Star We Need

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Robyn - Body Talk Part 1 Cover Art

Robyn’s rise to popularity is not unlike like most pop stars from the 90s –through television. Although, unlike the mediocre sketch comedy Disney-machine stories of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and even Miley Cyrus, Robyn recorded a show’s theme song at the age of 12 and performed a self-penned song not long after. Just like Britney & Christina, she scored her first U.S. top ten around the age of 17, with Robyn’s in ‘97 and theirs a year later. To be fair, Robyn is Swedish, and, it bears mentioning, a few years older than those Mouseketeers (she turned 31 this past Saturday). The former fact makes her cooler, while the latter has made her wiser and more self-aware than any other pop star. Unfortunately, awareness can come with a price, like self-isolation from too much introspection –a recurring theme on Body Talk Pt. 1.

Music News: Robyn “None of Dem” featuring Royksopp

Monday, April 12th, 2010

None of DemWhat do you get when you pair Robyn with Royksopp? Pure dark, dancehall perfection. But don’t take our word for it, head on over to Robyn’s official site and listen to her latest song “None of Dem.”

The song will be released as a single on April 13th and will also be part of her upcoming EP, Body Talk Part 1. In typical Robyn-Royksopp fashion, the song is a flawless blend of subtle (and not so subtle) disses over an infectious, moody repetitive groove.

Just to up the fun factor, you can record and upload a video of yourself to her website dancing to “None of Dem” if you so desire. We didn’t participate, but did marvel at Robyn grooving along.

Listen to Robyn’s “None of Dem” now.

New Music: Robyn “Fembot”

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Fembot

Robyn is continuing her onslaught of new music as her latest song “Fembot” debuted on her website last night. The song itself is what I’ve come to expect from Robyn at this point, which isn’t a bad thing really because she still manages to make her robot love sound fresh. “Fembot” is definitely closer to the Robyn/Royksopp sound of late and a far departure from “No Hassle,” her leaked collaboration with Diplo.

No clue if “Fembot” will be part of one of the EPs previously discussed by Robyn during an online interview. Listen to “Fembot” below.

Four New Robyn Tracks Surface in Interview Clip

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Huzzah! The self-proclaimed Dance Hall Queen, Robyn, is back! uh, letting some bits of info and new tracks from her upcoming albums out into the ether… Oh, yeah, that’s right –I wrote albums. According to Stereogum’s Progress Report, our girl, nay, lady (she just turned 30 –my, how far she’s come since her “Show Me Love” days!) will be releasing a few “mini-albums” throughout 2010. Could this be part of that silly “Six-Pak” idea AP brought to our attention last month? Sort of. Robyn explains:

But for me this is not an EP or a lesser version of an album. It’s an album, but it’s maybe not the normal length, so I can go back to the studio again and release these songs while they’re actually fresh, and go back to the studio and work on more stuff while touring.

So she’s saying less music more often, which I support. And it lends itself to the tracks being more current, not to mention more aligned with the hyper-speed of info and song leaks in the blogosphere.

Watch the clip and get a (somewhat guesstimated) preview of track names and producers, c/o YouTuber r8ght, after the cut.

Welcome to iamamiwhoami (The Fifth Video)

iamamiwhoami - WelcomeThis weekend I’m going to sit down and catalog everything we know about iamamiwhoami. I’m going to collect the places, animals, blinks and beats – put them all in a pile and sort through them.

That’s if I don’t go mad first. I give myself about a 70 percent chance.

But before I lose my mind, let’s have a look at the newest iamamiwhoami video. Yes, as ReMyky22 and others have predicted – she’s in the cabin. Or one of them is … because now it seems like there may be more than one female lead in this saga. More on this later …

We’ve had a lot of guesses over the last three posts and, honestly, at this point, any of them seem feasible. (Except Christina … sorry Andrew & ReMyky) To be honest, I wanted it to be her too. Still … I just don’t see it.

If you’re just joining us, feel free to take a read through our previous iamamiwhoami posts. At the least, it’ll be a good lead into the fair amount of rambling I’m about to drop on you. (more…)

Since then we have expanded to seven members, including a Chi-town native, and the conversations have gotten bigger and better. The Round Table has grown into a casual setting where music aficionados can gather to discuss all things music. Topics include (but not limited to) artists and bands, new music releases, concerts, recording industry news and concerns, and the occasional nugget of entertainment gossip. We have tastes that cover the entire music spectrum and love to share them (and our opinions) with each other. We are The Round Table! Come join the conversation!
