TRT Reviews: The All-American Rejects Kids in The Street Tour at The Fillmore in Charlotte NC

The All-American Rejects returned to their southern roots last Friday as the band performed at The Fillmore in Charlotte, North Carolina in support of new album, Kids in the Street. While the band, fronted by Tyson Ritter, may have originated from Stillwater, Oklahoma over a decade ago, there’s nothing small town about these guys.

A packed house at The Fillmore launched into an immediate sing-a-long as AAR opened the show with pop mega-hit “Dirty Little Secret” before giving way to lead single off the current album, “Beekeeper’s Daughter.” Throughout the night, an energetic (and slightly vulgar) Ritter danced, posed, and bounced his way across the stage as he played to the crowd like a true frontman should. He even went so far as to call out the crowd, several times, for lacking in energy before he gave way to guitarist Mike Kennerty. The All-American Rejects have just unveiled the brand new music video for the title track off latest album, Kids In the Street. The video takes a nostalgic look at the band members pasts as they navigate love and the oh-so-formidable teenage years. It stars younger versions of the band members themselves and features a classic no-holds-barred performance from the band in a surrealistic, neon, windswept vision of their past.

The Rejects are currently on the road supporting the album before their stop at the 2012 Bamboozle Festival in Asbury Park, NJ on May 19th. The band will also be supporting Blink-182 on their upcoming European summer tour kicking off in June.

Album Review: The All-American Rejects Kids in the Street Album

The All-American Rejects are back with their fourth studio album, Kids in the Street, which finds frontman Tyson Ritter exploring themes of regret, nostalgia, and of course, the rock-star dream of excess.

The album opens with “Someday’s Gone,” which features brash, crunchy guitars as Ritter’s emo-pop vocals provide a verbal takedown of an ex-lover as he questions, “What makes you so damn sure that you’re perfect, huh?.” It becomes very clear early on that love and loss are themes woven throughout the entire album with AAR’s brand of hook-friendly melodies and potent rhythmic energy even as they play with a more new-wave sound.
